Once your tents are set up, discuss with your den what actions you should take in the case of the following extreme weather events which could require you to evacuate:
Severe rainstorm causing flooding (1)
Severe thunderstorm with lightning or tornadoes (2)

Fire, earthquake, or other disaster that will require evacuation. (3)
Discuss what you have done to minimize as much danger as possible. (4)
What should you do in the case of the following emergencies?
What should you do in the case of the following emergencies?
- Either (a) move the tent to higher ground or (b) pack up your tent and leave. (Personally, I would "pack up your tent and leave.") Also, stay away from flooded areas. You could get carried away and/or drown.
- For thunderstorms, take immediate shelter in a car, building, or house. Be a low object in your area, crouched down, 100 feet from everyone else. BEEP BEEP BEEP!!! AVOID ELECTRIC CONDUCTORS LIKE WATER AND METAL STRUCTURES! For tornadoes, according to my scout book, "If you 're caught outside, get in a ditch and lie ... flat" (ha ha ha) Or you can just go into a closet or basement.
- Go to a pre-specified meeting place and leave in a calm and orderly manner.
- I have set up camp FAR from water, always brought a pocketknife and planned according to the predicted weather.
